Leadership & Decision-Making /

Leadership and Decision-making at GCBC happen on a number of levels.

First Level: The Congregation
We are a church which seeks to make important decisions together under the authority of scripture and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. For example, the congregation as a whole votes on a proposed budget. In the past, we decided together as a church to launch a drop-in centre and to progress in property development according to agreed-upon parameters. We meet together as a church at least three times a year, including the annual general meeting early in the new year.

Second Level: Church Council
The Council is composed mainly of elected members and includes deacons, the moderator, the chair of stewardship, the treasurer and the pastors. The council provides overall leadership for the congregation. Members of Council develop plans to implement GCBC’s vision, pray together and for others, serve communion and participate in home groups. If you have an idea about a particular project or way to serve others, a concern about the church, an idea for enhancing the life of the congregation, the deacons or one of the pastors are the people to talk to. The pastor and deacons also oversee and coordinate the equipping and pastoral care of the congregation.

Third Level: Groups & Committees
Leadership occurs in groups which perform tasks for the congregation, or programs for the congregation or for people beyond the church. This booklet describes several of these. If you want to be involved in one of these areas or share an idea, speak directly to the people involved – see the current year’s ‘Church Commission List’ in the GCBC sanctuary entrance foyer.
